Rate: $97,000-$104,000
Location: Waterloo, ON - 5x Per Week
Employment: Full-Time Permanent
Insight Global is seeking a qualified Controls Engineer to join a leading automation company based in Waterloo, Ontario. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting custom automated machinery and production systems, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements and industry standards. You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineering, assembly, and electrical teams to develop and implement control systems utilizing PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, servo drives, industrial networks, and other advanced automation technologies. Day-to-day responsibilities include programming and validating machine functionality, troubleshooting and optimizing system performance, commissioning equipment both in-house and at customer sites, maintaining technical documentation, and providing ongoing support throughout installation, startup, and debugging activities. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex automation projects from concept through deployment while serving as a technical resource for both internal teams and customers.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years of experience designing or implementing software and controls systems in an automation environment
- OMRON, Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC environment experience
- Programming from scratch experience and experience owning projects from start to finish
- Valid passport and driver's license with the ability to travel within Canada, US, and Mexico
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Programming Robots and Vision (Fanuc, ABB)
- Programming Servo Systems
- Programming using C++ (nice to have), VB in a Microsoft environment, preferably .Net
- Implementation of Industrial Networks
