Website Transformation Digital Communications Specialist
Location: Calgary, Alberta - hybrid schedule
Assignment length: 16–18 months
Compensation: $65–$75 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
About the opportunity
We’re seeking a senior Website Transformation Digital Communications Specialist to help guide the evolution of a large corporate website as it moves from an end-of-life platform to a modern, AI-enabled Sitecore environment.
This is a strategic business and content leadership role - not a project manager or developer position. You’ll help determine what content and functionality should be retained, improved, consolidated or retired, and translate business and communications needs into clear direction for the development team and external agency.
You’ll work across a complex organization, advising leaders and bringing diverse stakeholder perspectives together to shape a website that supports corporate communications, reputation, user needs and effective internal publishing.
What you’ll do
- Guide the website transformation: Provide business and communications leadership from discovery and requirements through design, content migration, testing, launch and adoption.
- Advise on key decisions: Help leaders assess what should stay, what should change and what should be retired, offering informed recommendations throughout the transformation.
- Translate business needs into website solutions: Turn corporate communications, campaign and public relations priorities into clear user stories, functional requirements and feedback for agency and development teams.
- Direct agency and development outcomes: Act as the primary business contact for the external agency, helping ensure proposed solutions meet organizational needs and provide flexible, reusable components for content teams.
- Champion the content authoring experience: Advocate for a clear, intuitive Sitecore authoring environment and practical publishing workflows for internal content owners.
- Lead content strategy and migration: Assess, rationalize and guide the migration of website content, including content structures, taxonomy, metadata, governance and publishing standards.
- Coordinate business testing: Plan and support user acceptance testing, validate requirements and migrated content, and help ensure the experience meets usability, accessibility and stakeholder expectations.
- Build alignment across the organization: Work closely with communications, content owners, IT, agency partners and senior leaders. Navigate competing priorities and organizational structures to reach clear decisions.
- Support adoption and change: Develop training and transition approaches to help content owners adopt the new platform and authoring tools.
- Strengthen digital findability: Incorporate SEO, site search, analytics, content discoverability and emerging AI-search considerations into the website strategy.
- Promote inclusive digital experiences: Consider accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA, throughout content and experience decisions.
What you’ll bring
- Approximately 10–15 years of relevant experience in digital communications, enterprise web strategy, content strategy, digital experience or a related field.
- Experience working in a large, complex organization, with the interpersonal and organizational skills to navigate stakeholder groups, competing priorities and senior-level decision-making.
- Experience with an enterprise CMS - such as Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager or a comparable platform - from a business, product owner or content perspective.
- Involvement in a website migration, modernization or digital transformation initiative.
- The ability to translate complex business and communications needs into clear, actionable requirements for designers, developers and agency partners.
- Practical familiarity with Agile delivery, including user stories, sprint planning, backlog management and user acceptance testing.
- Strong knowledge of content strategy, information architecture, content hierarchy, taxonomies, metadata, governance and user journeys.
- Experience with accessibility and inclusive digital design practices; familiarity with WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Understanding of SEO, site search, digital analytics and content optimization, including emerging AI-search principles.
- Confidence providing recommendations and helping leaders make informed decisions about website priorities and trade-offs.
