Estimator, Civil & General Construction - Permanent - 19476
About The Opportunity
Parker Huggett is proud to be working with a well-established Ottawa construction firm to find an experienced Estimator to join their growing team.
With more than four decades of experience in the National Capital Region, our client has built an excellent reputation for quality workmanship, integrity and delivering challenging projects across the commercial, institutional, municipal and private sectors. Their portfolio includes high-profile civil, site development, restoration, redevelopment and specialty construction projects throughout Ottawa.
What makes this opportunity particularly interesting is the contractor’s ability to self-perform a significant portion of its work. With an experienced in-house workforce and company-owned equipment, the successful Estimator will have exposure to a diverse range of scopes including excavation and site servicing, concrete, asphalt, masonry, hardscape, landscaping and exterior construction.
Rather than estimating the same type of project repeatedly, you will have exposure to a broad mix of work - from civil and site development through restoration, specialty construction and high-profile public-sector projects.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, tender documents and project requirements
- Completing detailed quantity take-offs and preparing cost estimates
- Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Developing labour, material, equipment and subcontractor costing
- Identifying project risks, opportunities, exclusions and scope gaps
- Preparing tender submissions and supporting bid closings
- Attending site visits and pre-bid meetings as required
- Working closely with operations and project management to develop practical construction approaches
- Maintaining strong relationships with trades, suppliers, consultants and clients
- Supporting project handover from estimating into construction
- Maintaining historical costing information and contributing to continuous improvements in estimating practices
About You
You are an experienced construction Estimator who understands how projects come together in the field and enjoys digging into the details of a bid.
Ideally, you bring experience estimating civil, site development, landscaping/hardscape, concrete or general contracting projects and are comfortable managing the estimating process from initial tender review through final submission.
You are organized, commercially minded and able to build strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, project teams and clients. Most importantly, you take ownership of your work and want to be part of an established local contractor where your contribution will have a direct impact on the business.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Several years of construction estimating experience within the Ottawa/Eastern Ontario market
- Experience with civil/site works, concrete, asphalt, landscaping/hardscape, restoration or general contracting would be considered a strong asset

- Strong organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
