Our client, a well established civil contractor based on Vancouver Island, BC, delivers underground utilities, road construction, and bridge projects. They are seeking a Civil Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple worksites, lead Foremen and crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee field operations across multiple civil construction sites, providing direction to Foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
- Develop construction sequences and look-ahead schedules with Project Managers to meet project milestones.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, and materials across worksites, adjusting resources to address changing priorities.
- Monitor productivity and field costs, identifying issues and implementing corrective action.
- Review construction drawings and specifications, identify constructability concerns, and coordinate clarification with the project team.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors to resolve field issues and maintain progress.
- Ensure consistent implementation of safety procedures and quality standards across all assigned sites.
- Identify scope changes and unexpected site conditions, documenting potential schedule and cost impacts for Project Managers.
- Mentor Foremen and maintain accountability for site performance, reporting, and project delivery.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of civil construction leadership experience, with a strong hands-on construction background.
- Demonstrated experience as a Superintendent or General Foreman overseeing multiple crews, subcontractors, or concurrent worksites.
- Strong background in underground utilities, road construction, earthworks, or related civil infrastructure.
- Experience planning construction sequences, managing schedules, and allocating resources across competing priorities.
- Ability to monitor productivity and field costs and address variances affecting schedule or budget.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, methods, equipment, and site safety requirements.
- Experience working with Project Managers, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve construction issues.
- Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to guide Foremen and hold teams accountable.
