The Opportunity:
Court Security provides security services as assigned within the Courts of Saskatchewan to ensure a safe and secure yet open environment for all users of court facilities. This includes secure prisoner transport, the operation of detention areas within court facilities, conducting perimeter screening in accordance with the Court Security Act, 2007, the maintenance of good order in all areas of court facilities, and the assessment and management of threats to courts and court participants.
Responsibilities
- Ensures secure transport of prisoners and security in the detention area.
- Provides security to the Judiciary, court staff, lawyers, witnesses and members of the public regarding the operation of the courts.
- Ensures confidentiality of information and documents are accurate for persons being released and/or held in custody.
- Assesses crisis situations, determines options and appropriate course to de-escalate situations and resolve problems to meet the diverse needs of parties.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Level C certification
- Valid Canadian driver's license equivalent to Saskatchewan Class 5 (or higher), non-probationary and non-graduated
- Recent driver’s abstract (within 3 months) showing a safe driving record
- Successful completion of the Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test (SOPAT) in 6 minutes or less
- Satisfactory psychological assessment (MMPI-2)
- Basic security clearance
Post-Hire Requirements
- Enhanced fingerprint clearance
- Completion of the Saskatchewan Deputy Sheriff Training Academy (SDSTA), including firearms certification and defensive tactics. Training is approximately 10 weeks, Monday to Friday, in Regina.
Additional Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrate the ability to create and maintain clear, accurate, complete, and legible handwritten and electronic records, including notebooks, reports, statements, occurrence documentation, and operational correspondence.
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written English communication sufficient to effectively perform the duties of the position, including report writing, policy interpretation, communication with employees, justice system partners, members of the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and the public, as well as responding appropriately during routine, emergent, and critical incidents.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using computer-based systems and software required to perform operational and supervisory duties, including email communication, document preparation, records management, reporting systems, information management tools, scheduling systems, and other technologies used in the delivery of court security and prisoner transport services.
