The Opportunity:
The Ministry of Highways, Traffic Guidance Operations, is seeking an organized and motivated Equipment Operator for the Pavement Marking/Provincial Signs Crew. The Traffic Guidance Unit is responsible for highway pavement marking and sign installation for provincial highways within the province. In this position, you will report to the Crew Lead and will be responsible for the application and quality of pavement markings within your geographic area. In addition, you will be required to provide assistance to the sign crew as required. This position is a Labour Service/Seasonal position and is subject to layoff in the fall and recall in the spring. This position requires extensive travel within your geographical location and may be required to be away from home for up to five (5) days a week.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy, medium, and light-duty equipment with specialized attachments for road, highway, and airport maintenance, including tandem trucks with hydro drum, spinner, snowplow/wing attachments, graders, front-end loaders, power brooms, forklifts, and handheld spray systems.
- Perform seasonal maintenance tasks such as highway upkeep in summer and snow and ice removal in winter, including controlling advanced hydraulic systems for plow, wing, and sander during snowstorms.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, brake checks, and pre-trip inspections, and communicate mechanical issues to technicians while performing basic repairs when required.
- Assist in or lead the setup of work zones, install appropriate signage, and direct or flag traffic in accordance with the Traffic Control Devices Manual (TCDM).
- Engage with the public and contractors, resolve complaints, and document incidents or accident scenes with detailed reports.
- Conduct field-level risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards while monitoring traffic flow and equipment usage for safety compliance.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of operational hours, equipment usage, inspections, repairs, and materials applied, and prepare detailed reports on work activities and material consumption.
- Organize and oversee portions of crew work, including task delegation and quality checks.
