The Opportunity:
The Ministry of Energy and Resources, Field Services Branch, requires energetic, self-motivated individuals to join our Regional office in the Estevan Regional Field Office.
The successful candidates will be a part of a team that is responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and enforcement programs relating to the upstream oil and gas industry. You will conduct field inspections and approve technical programs and applications submitted by the industry with respect to drilling, construction, production, operation, abandonment, decommissioning and reclamation of wells and facilities.
You will have knowledge of engineering, environmental and safety standards and practices as they relate specifically to the exploration, development, operation and production of provincial oil and gas resources. You will have demonstrated ability in supervising deadline-sensitive projects and large workloads. The successful applicant will be required to work undefined hours, travel and work in remote locations and inclement conditions. You may be on call for extended periods of time and may be required to transfer to other locations within the province. A Class 5 driver's licence is required.
The knowledge required for this position would typically be obtained through an engineering or applied science degree with experience in the petroleum exploration and development industry, or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience.
Responsibilities
- Deliver regulatory compliance and enforcement programs related to upstream oil and gas operations.
- Enforce environmental and safety standards for exploration, drilling, construction, production, abandonment, decommissioning, and reclamation of wells and facilities.
- Conduct field inspections and approve technical programs and applications submitted by industry operators.
- Interpret and apply federal and provincial legislation, regulations, policies, and agreements relevant to oil and gas activities.
- Mediate and facilitate discussions with co-workers, stakeholders, industry representatives, and public/private sector partners to resolve issues.
- Identify, analyze, and clarify issues or concerns; provide options and recommendations to resolve conflicts.
- Operate and maintain scientific, safety, and analytical equipment in compliance with standards.
- Collect and analyze representative samples using standard sampling techniques and protocols.
- Assess geological formations and interpret open and closed hole logs to support technical evaluations.
- Input, edit, update, retrieve, and maintain data; generate queries, reports, and technical documents.
- Plan, develop, and deliver presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
- Compose technical reports, general correspondence, and newsletters to communicate findings and updates.
