Our client, a growing and entrepreneurial project-based organization in Southwestern Ontario, is seeking a Director of Finance to join their senior leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the finance function, driving process improvements, enhancing ERP utilization, and providing strategic financial support to business operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing month-end reporting, strengthening financial controls, and partnering with operational leaders to improve profitability and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain general ledger integrity through reconciliations, analytical reviews, and strong financial controls.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting activities.
- Coordinate year-end audit requirements and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
Business Performance & Strategic Finance
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives, translating operational objectives into meaningful financial models.
- Analyze financial results, key variances, trends, and business drivers to provide actionable insights.
- Develop KPI dashboards and management reporting tools to enhance visibility into operational and financial performance.
- Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership to support decision-making, profitability, and working capital optimization.
- Oversee cash flow management and working capital planning to support business growth and financial stability.
Systems, Process & Governance
- Drive process improvement initiatives across finance and operational functions to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Optimize ERP systems, reporting capabilities, automation, and workflows to improve accuracy and productivity.
- Partner with operational stakeholders to enhance project costing, revenue recognition, and transaction processing.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, internal controls, and accountability measures to strengthen finance operations.
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes and remove operational bottlenecks.
- Support relationships with financial institutions, ensuring compliance with lending agreements and reporting requirements.
- Assist with risk management, financial governance, and the ongoing enhancement of internal control frameworks.
Qualifications
- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including people leadership responsibilities.
- Strong experience working with and optimizing ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is considered a significant asset.
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Experience with project-based, construction, engineering, manufacturing, or service-oriented environments is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead process improvement initiatives and work collaboratively across departments.
