Our client, a well-established mid-sized public accounting firm in the North GTA with a highly specialized Tax Practice, is seeking a talented Tax Accountant to join their growing team. This role offers exposure to a broad range of tax matters, including compliance, planning, research, and client advisory services. It is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who is pursuing expertise in Canadian taxation and looking to develop their tax planning capabilities while working alongside experienced tax specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Canadian income tax returns for individuals, corporations, trusts, and partnerships, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax legislation.
- Assist with the preparation and implementation of tax planning strategies for owner-managed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and corporate clients.
- Prepare and file information returns, elections, notices, and other tax-related filings.
- Support tax reorganization engagements and other complex tax planning projects.
- Research Canadian income tax issues and provide technical support to clients and internal teams.
- Review CRA notices, assessments, reassessments, and statements of account, identifying and resolving issues as required.
- Prepare responses to CRA audits, reviews, information requests, and taxpayer relief applications.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding tax matters, compliance requirements, and planning opportunities.
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency and other tax authorities on behalf of clients.
- Monitor developments in Canadian tax legislation and assess the impact on clients.
- Collaborate with partners and team members to deliver exceptional client service and meet engagement deadlines.
- Utilize leading tax and accounting software to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax engagements.
Qualifications
- CPA designation (or nearing completion).
- Enrollment in, or completion of, the CPA In-Depth Tax Course is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of public accounting experience with a focus on Canadian taxation.
- Strong understanding of Canadian income tax legislation, CRA administrative practices, and compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing corporate, personal, and trust income tax returns.
- Proficiency with CaseWare, TaxPrep/Profile, and related tax and accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
