Residential Property Accountant - Ottawa (Hybrid 3 days in office | 2 days work from home)
Compensation Package: $65,000-$70,000 + annual bonus + 3 weeks vacation + benefits package + RSP match
Your new roles and responsibilities:
As an accurate and detail-oriented individual, the Property Accountant is responsible for the full cycle of accounting duties of the assigned properties within the portfolio but not limited to:
- Performing weekly bank reconciliations.
- Preparing monthly cash flows.
- Monthly Financial Statement preparation.
- Performing monthly account analysis and reconciliation.
- Analyzing monthly variances and drafting explanations.
- Assisting Property Managers and Regional Managers with tenant inquiries.
- Reviewing tenant account receivable and following up with respect to collections, bad debt allowance and write offs.
- Preparing monthly HST and QST remittances.
- Assisting Property Management with preparation of annual property budgets.
- Preparing and processing of non-automated transactions as required.
- Reviewing, coding and approving invoices in accounting system.
- Assisting Property Management with Ontario Above Guideline Increase applications and processing.
- Performing year end procedures
- Drafting and/or updating internal process documentation.
- Assisting with annual filing requirements (i.e.. Energy Star, MPAC, etc.).
- Communicating with internal and external partners as required.
Requirements for success:
- College diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in general accounting, preferably within the residential property management industry.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrates curiosity, critical thinking, and a solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Strong analytical and accounting skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Maintains a positive attitude and demonstrates enthusiasm and professionalism.
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
- Experience with Yardi software is considered an asset.
