Job Title: Communications Specialist
Location: Toronto, ON (hybrid)
Duration: 12 months contract (with possibility of extension/conversion)
Position Summary
The Communications Consultant will be responsible for managing and supporting communications related to technology strategies, initiatives, and deliverables within the B2B Banking & Credit Technology department at client.
The successful candidate will develop clear, concise, and engaging communications by gathering information from multiple sources and stakeholders, including technical teams, and translating complex technology information into easily understandable content for non-technical audiences.
The role will primarily support group-level communications and communication requests across the business, working closely with internal stakeholders and under the direction of the Communications Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop clear, concise, and engaging written content using information from multiple sources.
- Gather relevant information from diverse stakeholder groups, including technical resources, and translate technical information into easy-to-understand communications.
- Draft, edit, refine, and proofread communications under the direction of the Communications Lead.
- Develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the execution of the communications schedule by drafting, coordinating, editing, and tracking recurring and ad hoc communications.
- Use established communication channels, templates, tools, and processes effectively.
- Develop a working knowledge of the bank's and department's strategies to connect communications to business strategies, achievements, opportunities, and benefits.
- Work independently on complex tasks and unique communication requirements.
- Coordinate multiple communication channels, stakeholders, priorities, deadlines, and approvals.
- Maintain strong follow-up and tracking discipline for open items, dependencies, reviews, and deliverables.
Required Skills & Experience
- Typically 5–7 years of relevant communications experience.
- Experience supporting internal communications, technology communications, leadership updates, newsletters, articles, announcements, or PowerPoint presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to craft clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate messaging.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, end users, executives, and other stakeholders.
- Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate the value and impact of technology.
- Ability to gather feedback and continuously improve communication strategies and content.
- Strong understanding and consistent use of established communication tools, templates, and methods.
- Strong proficiency with MS Office, particularly Outlook, MS Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to create or support simple visuals, infographics, PowerPoint formatting, and presentation clean-up.
- Understanding of broad technology concepts, including application development and implementation, technology migrations and conversions, and cloud capabilities.
- Ability to understand technical terminology and translate it into simple, customer-friendly language.
- Awareness of technology and financial-services industry trends and competitive landscapes.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, priorities, timelines, dependencies, approvals, and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.
Education
Post-secondary degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
