JOB DESCRIPTION
IG is looking for a Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the development and advancement of new technologies by proactively contributing high-impact ideas and innovative designs that align with the company’s strategic growth objectives. This role focuses on continuously improving the safety, efficiency, and overall capabilities of the company’s equipment and processes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of the company’s proprietary crane-less lifting systems, tooling, and engineered solutions, supporting wind turbine corrective repairs and major component exchanges.
- Manage complex engineering projects from concept through deployment, including requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, validation, documentation, and implementation.
- Develop innovative mechanical and structural solutions that improve safety, reliability, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
- Perform engineering calculations, structural assessments, risk analyses, design reviews, and verification/validation activities to ensure equipment performance, reliability, and field readiness.
- Collaborate with Operations, Field Services, Project Management, Supply Chain, customers, suppliers, and external engineering partners to deliver practical, manufacturable, and scalable solutions, while providing technical leadership during installations, commissioning, and major repair operations.
- Drive continuous improvement through root cause investigations, new technology development, engineering best practices, process enhancements, and mentorship of junior engineers and designers, supporting the company’s leadership in sustainable wind energy maintenance and repair solutions.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum five years of experience in related industry.
- Hands-on experience with tools, machinery, heavy equipment, or vehicles, and/or technical knowledge of cranes, structural fabrication, machining, hydraulics, electronics, and control systems.
- Proficient with SolidWorks
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering is required. Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng).
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Lean-6Sigma yellow/green/black belt is an asset.
