Medical Laboratory Technologist
Position Summary:
Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) perform complex laboratory testing on patient samples to assist physicians and healthcare teams in diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease. They operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory equipment while ensuring accuracy, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and instrumentation
- Ensure quality assurance, calibration, and adherence to safety protocols
- Interpret and validate test results before reporting to physicians or clinical teams
- Maintain accurate patient records and laboratory documentation
- Follow infection control, workplace safety, and regulatory guidelines
- Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program
- CSMLS certification (Canada) or equivalent licensing/registration
- Eligibility for provincial registration (e.g., BC College/health authority requirements)
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, specimen handling, and quality standards
- Excellent analytical, technical, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Cerner training and Northern Health (NH) experience are strongly preferred.
